In the summer of 1999 we surveyed the evangelical churches of Sioux Falls (a total of 100 churches, including all mainline denominations) and discovered approximately 32,000 people attend church on any given Sunday, with an average age of 45. (For the record, at the time of the study Sioux Falls was approximately 125,000 people with an average age of 32.8). Thus, on any given Sunday in the greater Sioux Falls area over 92,000 people are not in church, and of the 100 churches only 7 reported that their average age was under 35 (of which Celebrate is one).
In the September issue of the Argus Leader (2003) it was reported that Lincoln County is the 3rd fastest growing county in the country. The same issue reported that our city planners are expecting 65,000 new residents by 2025. There is a lot of work to be done and we wholeheartedly believe that God has called Celebrate to reach the thousands, to teach them, equip them, and ultimately release them for the glory of God.
We believe that God has called us to share in the harvest alongside the other evangelical churches that stand upon the Word of God. It is not our desire to duplicate what other churches are already doing, but to discover, and live out, our God-designed uniqueness.
